It's no surprise that meal delivery kits are becoming increasingly popular. With fresh ingredients, home delivery, healthy dishes, and easy-to-follow recipes, meal delivery kits provide a great alternative to greasy take-out. image

These meal delivery kits are delivered in boxes, packed with pre-portioned fresh ingredients, ready to be prepared according to clearly illustrated recipe cards. Prep usually takes about 15-20 minutes and even if you've never cooked anything before, you will still be able to create delicious Instagram-worthy dishes.

Instead of scouring the Internet for new and interesting recipes then spending hours at the grocery store looking for complicated ingredients, meal delivery kits make it easy to cook great meals at home. Sure, you'll still have some cooking and prep to do, but the hard part is taken care of and you can enjoy your freshly cooked meal with family or friends.

So while it’s definitely convenient and time-saving, can meal kits actually save you money? image

Based on a report by CBS Chicago, the simple answer is yes. When compared to grocery store prices, meal delivery kits can actually save you money and ensure that you don't buy a large bottle of some ingredient or spice, when all you need is a few tablespoons.

The CBS report looked at some top-rated meal delivery services including Home Chef, Hello Fresh, and Blue Apron. Though not all meal delivery services were cheaper compared to the grocery store.

Home Chef is the big winner when it comes to saving money, as their 4 entrée kit costs just under $50 (including shipping), while the same ingredients at the grocery store came out to $57. Blue Apron offered similar savings, with their 6 entrée kit coming out to $60. Those same ingredients purchased at the grocery store amount to $65.40, saving you about $5. image

A similar report on Time Magazine MONEY discovered that Plated is the best value-for-money meal kit. They calculated that ordering from Plated will save you about 12% when compared to buying the same high-quality ingredients from a grocery store.

On the whole, meal kits will always save you time, and in some cases may save you money as well. So if your tight schedule doesn't allow for grocery shopping and you're tired of ordering pizza every night, meal delivery kits are a great and delicious alternative. Plus, it's a great way to impress your friends, family, or even a date.

Bottom line - if you are into saving time, saving money, trying new things, and eating delicious food, then meal delivery kits are definitely worth trying out. image
